OMG!! A radioactive fish was found in Vermont! We're all going to die!
Well, actually the substance found in the fish (strontium) is a naturally occuring element in small amounts, and since this is the first year we have begun testing for it, we don't know the baseline amount for the river in question. At any rate, the amount is far too small to be dangerous. In fact, this isn't even remotely newsworthy.
However, these facts do not come out until halfway through the article I read this in. I know that many people only skim the headlines to keep up on events. I sometimes do this myself. I have a life outside of world events, after all. What I wonder is if those who skim the headlines and those who read everything through tend to fall into different demographic groups, and if this explains their differences in political opinion. Just some thoughts...
