Natalie Portman is having a baby - out of wedlock. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee made some comments about this. Now he's being criticized for them, but is it possible he was misunderstood?
According to this article, Mike criticized Natalie for not being married, but a careful reading of his actual comments as recorded in the article does not support this. Mr. Huckabee was merely concerned that she was being upheld as a model for others, many of whom are in very different circumstances and should not use her as a model. Many single mothers are less financially secure than Ms. Portman, and are less able to effectively care for the children without a partner. If Huckabee was criticizing anything, it was the media, not Natalie.
After perusing the comments below the article, I determined that most people had not even read it. One commenter claimed that Huckabee had a holier-than-thou attitude. Another claimed that it wasn’t his place to tell others what was and wasn’t moral (and this commenter admitted to agreeing with him in part). Still another commenter went on and on about the bank bailouts.
