Introduction
While people disagree on both the problems and the solutions, it seems that everyone agrees that the political system in the United States is fundamentally broken. There are those calling to tear the whole thing down. Others are actively doing exactly that. Rumors of civil war are everywhere.
In my 2011 book, The Nutcase Across The Street, I explained why I believed that demonizing our political opponents was bad for the country and bad for relationships. I explained why I thought it was happening and how to fix it.
In my 2022 book, Why Civility Failed, I explained how wrong I was before about the causes and solutions of the rapidly increasing conflict. I concluded that some people are simply committed to destroying themselves and bringing the world down with them. Demonizing them is actually an insult to demons.
In this book, I describe where things are headed soon if we don’t pull back. While I don’t have a solution, I bring what I hope is a fuller understanding of the problem. The problem is not tyranny, but anarchy. Barring a miracle, it is only a matter of time before there is a civil war. It is the end of democracy. It is the end of politics. It is the end of government.
